The Daily Herald recently published a story to coincide with Brain Injury Awareness Month. The article includes perspectives from Sangeeta Driver, MD, MPH, section chief, Brain Injury Medicine, Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.
“I would say almost everyone knows someone who may have had a brain injury,” Dr. Driver said. “The more we learn about the brain, the more we're understanding that its ability to heal and form new connections is much longer than we originally thought.”
The article also profiles Katianne Olson, whose husband, Chase, sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI) after falling from a roof. He was treated through Shirley Ryan AbilityLab's Inpatient and DayRehab levels of care. Committed to building awareness around TBIs, Katianne has authored a new children’s book on the topic.
