About Me
Margaret Maras joined the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab team in 2018. Margaret has a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from St. Xavier’s University. She has a background in intensive-care unit (ICU) nursing, having worked in the ICU at OSF Little Company of Mary Medical Center, Advocate South Suburban Hospital and Advocate Christ Medical Center.
As an Admission Liaison, Margaret enjoys the relationships she forms with patients and families as she helps them connect with the best possible care. Engaging the patients and families, early on, while the patient is still in acute care, provides them with much-needed support and guidance during a trying time. Her role has deepened both her medical knowledge and her ability to understand patient and family concerns and needs from their perspective. She prides herself on her ability to educate and bring hope, and she enjoys participating in the acute-care hospital team's decision-making process when it is preparing potential patients for rehabilitation.
Margaret is a Chicago native and found her calling after suddenly finding and helping someone in urgent need. She lives in the Chicagoland area with her adorable children.
