Vocational Rehabilitation has been suggested to help people with Parkinson’s disease (PD) with job retention. Shirley Ryan AbilityLab Vocational Rehabilitation counselors provide specialized counseling on strategies to retain current employment or obtain new employment in people with disabilities or medical conditions. However, Vocational Rehabilitation services are hard for people with Parkinson’s disease to access.
This peer support group and education series expands the availability of Vocational Rehabilitation to people with PD who would otherwise not be able to receive services at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab due to living out of state or other travel barriers. Meetings are conducted over Zoom twice a month. Quarterly, expert speakers will present on topics such as disclosure, ADA and employee rights, and other employment-related topics. Parkinson’s Works meetings are moderated by a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor.
