Leora Cherney, PhD, scientific chair, Think + Speak Lab, at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab recently received the Academy of Neurologic Communication Disorders and Sciences’ (ANCDS) top award, Honors of the Academy.
The prestigious award was presented at the organization’s annual meeting on Nov. 14 in Boston.
Dr. Cherney was recognized for her career-spanning achievements and ANCDS leadership, including her internationally recognized expertise in aphasia and communication impairments; research grants which have led to hundreds of research papers, chapters and presentations; and five books that promote intensive, innovative, evidence-based treatments for neurologic communication disorders.
In one letter of nomination, Barbara Shadden, PhD, professor emeritus at the University of Arkansas, wrote: “Dr. Cherney’s contributions to our understanding and work with neurogenic communication disorders are remarkable in breadth and depth, seminal in contributing to the knowledge base, and critical in impact on clinical practice, particularly with those living with aphasia.”
