Max Shepherd, a PhD candidate in biomedical engineering who conducts his research at the Center for Bionic Medicine, was recently interviewed for an article published in Northwestern's Helix magazine. Shepherd's research focuses on designing robotic prosthetic feet that can intuitively respond to and sense the user's intended movement, for example changing foot stiffness to make walking up the stairs with a prosthetic leg easier. In March, he was awarded the Northwestern Presidential Fellowship.
