About Me

April (she/they) is a licensed professional music therapist and board certified music therapist. April received their music therapy degree at Eastern Michigan University with a minor in Women's and Gender Studies. April became a board-certified music therapist in 2017, and has worked as a clinical music therapist in inpatient crisis stabilization psychiatric settings, long term inpatient psychiatric settings, substance use rehabilitation settings, in their own community-based mental health-focused private practice, and with patients of all backgrounds at Shirley Ryan Abilitylab. April takes a patient centered approach in meeting patients where they're at to utilize any use of music that supports the well-being of the patient, as well as supporting their strengths and interests. April works with many patients who have never picked up an instrument before, as well as professional and lifelong musicians. April is passionate about the healing power of music and the innate ability within us all to use music for wellness and connection.
