At the American Organization for Nursing Leadership’s (AONL) recent 2024 conference, a pair of Shirley Ryan AbilityLab nursing leaders were honored: Sharon Rangel, associate chief nursing officer, and Lindsay Hong, nurse manager, 24th Floor.
Sharon was inducted into the AONL’s fellow program in recognition of her contributions to nursing leadership, commitment to service and influence in shaping healthcare. Now, she has an additional credential: Fellow of the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (FAONL).
“Becoming an AONL fellow is such an honor and privilege,” she said. “I am grateful for my years of nursing leadership and the professional journey that has brought me to this point. There were many great mentors along the way who have assisted my journey to get here: I will never forget them.”
Lindsay was honored with AONL’s Pamela Austin Thompson Emerging Leader Award for her work to improve morale and interdisciplinary communication, boost retention, and counteract burnout on her team. Some of Lindsay’s initiatives called out by AONL include a nurse-led unit governance council to increase staff engagement and peer recognition, and a “March Madness”-themed initiative focused on team building and staff and patient wellness.
“Shirley Ryan AbilityLab has given me so many opportunities to learn and grow over the years; I am truly honored to represent our organization,” said Lindsay. “Thank you to all who have coached me and guided me. My position as manager on the 24th Floor has been the most rewarding role in my nearly 10 years with the organization! I am honored to receive this award!”
The AONL conference was held April 8–11 in New Orleans.
