The newest recipient of the DAISY Award nursing excellence is Olena Melnyk, RN!
Olena was nominated by a patient's family member, who wrote:
“Olena was my husband's nurse during most of the first week we were at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. When she first met us, she asked if there was anything we needed. Since I was staying overnight with my husband, she brought us extra towels and sheets, and extra pitchers of water, straws and silverware.
“I mentioned that we would be here for our wedding anniversary and would like to have some food delivered for that evening's meal. She asked what type of food we liked and returned with a list of five different restaurants. I was impressed that she took the time to help make our anniversary special!
“Olena always took time to answer our questions, and tracked down my husband during therapy to make sure he received his medicine on time. Olena's outgoing, warm personality — plus her care and concern — puts her at the top of the list for nurses who deserve special recognition.”
At her DAISY Award ceremony, Olena was presented with a certificate of recognition, a handmade sculpture and the DAISY Award pin.
