From May 6 to 12, 2018, Shirley Ryan AbilityLab celebrated National Nurses Week with a jam-packed slate of events, awards, a breakfast and smoothie cart, and treats galore.
It started on Monday with Unit Day (in which units organized their own celebrations) and culminated on Friday with a blowout birthday party for Florence Nightingale, the English social reformer, statistician and founder of modern professional nursing.
National Nurses Week Awards: Remarkable Image of Caring Award & Nancye B. Holt Legacy of Nursing Award
Body
One of the annual highlights of National Nurses Week is the presentation of two awards to individuals who demonstrate our mission, philosophy and commitment to excellence in patient care. The Remarkable Image of Caring Award recognizes an outstanding PCT, medical assistant, rehabilitation technician, patient support aide or nurse intern. The Nancye B. Holt Legacy of Nursing Award recognizes a nurse or advanced practice nurse. The winners of this year’s awards are both from the 20th floor: Winny Chiu, RN, was awarded the Nancye B. Holt Legacy of Nursing Award and Janice Pittman, PCT, was awarded the Remarkable Image of Caring Award!
Winny and Janice each received a recognition plaque, award certificate and bouquet of flowers from their peers.
This year we had a record number of nominations: 41 for the Nancye B. Holt Award and 32 for the Remarkable Image of Caring Award! Nominees were recognized on their respective units and received certificates.
