Body
Surviving COVID-19 can be an arduous journey, but recovering is an equally challenging feat. Gordon Quinn was the first patient to receive therapy and graduate from our COVID Care Unit.
After a month in an acute-care hospital, including two weeks on a ventilator, Gordon was unable to get out of bed and had cognitive and dexterity issues that left him without the ability to type even his phone password.
He arrived at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab highly motivated. He readily engaged in our rigorous rehabilitation program to regain strength, mobility and independent function and quickly made strides in dressing himself, walking and navigating the stairs. After a little more than two weeks of working with our expert occupational therapists, physical therapists and speech-language pathologists, he was finally able to return home.
It’s amazing how fast you can recover in a dedicated rehabilitation facility like
Gordon Quinn
Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. The entire team is first-rate and highly trained.
Body
Today, Gordon feels about 95 percent back to normal. He’s resumed his passion and profession as a filmmaker, while also continuing to build stamina by taking walks around the neighborhood.
He looks back on his journey with amazement and disbelief — unable to imagine how his mind and body traveled from the edge of death to resuming his daily life.
We are the critical next step in helping COVID-19 patients regain their abilities … but, we need your help.
Please consider making a gift to Shirley Ryan AbilityLab today. Your help ensures our ability to continue providing expert care and support the community.
