Introduction to Upper Extremity Casting
Description: Upper extremity serial casting is an intervention used to manage soft tissue contractures. It is an advanced clinical skill that requires additional training to identify appropriate patients and understand the potential outcomes for casting. This webinar will give an overview of the following topics: casting goals, casting process including review of precautions and ideas for orthotics post casting that are important to consider when deciding to serial cast. Adult case studies will be provided.
Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Discuss current evidence for upper extremity serial casting and the types of upper extremity impairments that benefit from UE serial casting
- Discuss indications and contraindications for UE serial casting
- Identify when to discontinue casting/and follow-up after UE serial casting
- Introduce selected casting material, types of casts and implications for their use
